Hi! My name’s Tim and thanks for checking out FloorJackShop.com.
The idea for this site actually came about after a scare I had a couple years ago doing some maintenance on my wife’s Jetta. My dad taught me about cars when I was young and how important it was to know how to do basic maintenance and repair yourself. He was always big on safety and for the most part, that stuck with me. After a recent move where it seemed like I had to purge half my tools (including my old Norco jack) due to space issues, I decided to switch out the brake pads on the Jetta. I figured the little scissor jack in the trunk would suffice since I hadn’t gotten around to buying a new floor jack and stands yet.
At some point I had my head under the car when I accidentally bumped something with my elbow. In a split second, the jack, which was sitting on a small crack in the driveway, toppled over. Fortunately, I had left the wheel I just took off, under the side of the car out of habit. That literally saved me from a lot of hurt (or worse). That instance taught me that I would always use jack stands and never a scissor jack unless I was on the side of the road with a flat.
Instead of just buying the first floor jack on sale, I ended up doing a ton of research before deciding on a model (the Arcan ALJ2T if you’re wondering). Along the way, I learned the ins and outs of jacks and jack stands.
